Literature Text

You said it was hardest to sleep knowing you'd have to wake up.
It was hardest to see the sun set knowing it would rise.

That's why you took the mass of hydrogen and stole it from the skies,
Left the colour of dreams and a smile as your disguise.

In your sleep you showed it how wrong it had been
Showed it why you never need wake up.
They left you with your eyes closed for ever.

Under the stars where we shine for you
Capricorn in blue
I met a winter that smelt just of you.
I met a snowflake that could cry on cue.

As your vision swam and I pretended to wish
I made promises to save you.

I wish I'd kept those promises.
You said it was hardest to sleep knowing you'd have to wake up.
